Hillwalking Terrain 2 Summer Permit Assessment

This course is designed to assess the specific skills required to lead a group in Terrain 2 conditions, typically steep mountainous terrain over 800 metres. See POR 9.30 for full definition.

How much? Assessment £90 per person / £95 per person for 2020 courses.  Scouts Grant Committee funding may be available.

Come and learn how to instruct tomahawk throwing from Bushscout at our Scout Adventure sites, allowing you to teach young people the skills required for throwing tomahawks.

Introduction and Skills for Residential Experiences (Modules 16 and 38)

This two day course is aimed at those who are new leaders or would like to be more confident in taking groups on overnight stays. The course involves practical sessions and will take place both outside and inside.

The course covers topics including:

  • Programme planning
  • Health and safety for residentials
  • Residential planning and administration
  • Learning to effectively pitch a camp
  • Practical skills
  • Styles of tent and cooking apparatus
  • Catering for your group
  • Backwoods cooking and campfires

Please note: Module 38 is not validated on this course, but a certificate which outlines the course contents will be provided for validation when presented to your Commissioner.

The course will mainly be practical but will also include some theory sessions.

The course runs from 09:00 - 16:00 the following day. You must attend the entire course to complete the training.
 

All participants will be camping outdoors unless you have special requirements to sleep indoors
